Tom Felts 1

Thomas J. Felts is the Judge of the Allen Circuit Court, having been first elected to that position in November, 2002. He was recently re-elected to a third term in office. Judge Felts previously served as Magistrate of the Allen Circuit Court Family Relations Division from October, 1989 through December, 2002. He is a 1976 graduate of the University of Notre Dame with a B.A. degree in Government and International Affairs, received his J.D. degree in 1979 from the Indiana University Maurer School of Law in Bloomington and was in private practice in Fort Wayne for 10 ½ years before taking the bench.
 
Judge Felts has served as an adjunct professor at the Indiana Tech Law School and previously served as an adjunct professor at Purdue University – Fort Wayne. He has been a Moot Court Competition Judge at the Indiana University Maurer School of Law in Bloomington for several years, and has additionally served numerous times as a lecturer for judges and attorneys in the areas of domestic relations, paternity, alternative dispute resolution, criminal law, criminal procedure, evidence, professional responsibility, probation and judicial ethics. Judge Felts is a graduate of the Indiana Judicial College and the Indiana Graduate Program for Judges.
 
Long active in state and local affairs, Judge Felts is the Past Chair of the Indiana State Bar Association House of Delegates. At the state level he serves on the Boards of Directors of the Indiana Bar Foundation, the Indiana Judicial Conference and the Indiana Judges Association and has served two terms on the Board of Directors of the Indiana State Bar Association. Judge Felts is the Chair of the Indiana Judicial Conference Judicial Education Committee and also serves on the Indiana General Assembly Interim Committee on Courts and the Judiciary, the Indiana Supreme Court Strategic Planning Committee and the Leadership Development Academy, Improvements in the Judiciary, State Legislation, Wellness and Futures Committees of the Indiana State Bar Association. At the local level, Judge Felts is Vice-Chair of the Board of Directors of Allen County Community Corrections and also serves on the Boards of Directors of the St. Joseph Community Health Foundation, the Greater Fort Wayne Metropolitan YMCA, the Allen County Courthouse Preservation Trust and the Allen County Public Records Commission. He also is a past Board member and officer of the Foellinger Foundation.
 
Judge Felts also serves as a choir member and substitute liturgist at Most Precious Blood Catholic Church. He is a member of the Allen County Republican Party, the Fort Wayne Running Club, the Knights of Columbus and the Greenway Consortium.
